Formby Hall Wedding – Katie & John
I arrived at Katie & John’s Formby Hall wedding just before 10am to cover Katie’s bridal preparations just as the clouds that had been threatening rain all morning decided to lightly soak me and my camera trolley case as I made the short walk from the car park to the shelter of the hotel reception. The forecast was for the rain showers to subside in the early afternoon, and fortunately the meteorologists were unerringly accurate as the rest of the day was dry with some sunny intervals.
As I entered the hotel room were Katie and her bridesmaids were getting ready for the big day I had my first indications that this was a couple who had spent a lot of time and effort in planning the details, ensuring their wedding day would be a day to be remembered by all who attended. The bridesmaids wore matching gowns, and each had received gifts in lovely bags with personalised messages from Katie & John.
St Luke’s Church in Formby is a lovely place to get married, set adjacent to the nearby Pinewoods, a quaint and charming church. Katie didn’t stop smiling throughout the whole day, but it wasn’t one of those forced smiles that some people reserve for the camera, but a warm, genuine smile that could light up a room. After the ceremony, we took some group shots in the church grounds before making the short walk to Formby Pinewoods to take some more fun photos with the bridesmaids and groomsmen.
As you can imagine, I get to listen to a lot of wedding speeches, some great ones and some not so great ones! John’s speech has to be up there with the best of them. It’s quite a tough balancing act to get the right amount of humour, including all the traditional ‘thank-you’s’ and making sure your bride feels special, but John managed to do all this AND read out a self-penned poem dedicated to Katie which brought a tear to many an eye.
