Village Hotel Wedding – Ellie & Peter
Ellie & Pete requested photography coverage of both bride & groom prep, which is great for me as it makes it easier to tell the story of the whole day when designing the wedding album. In these situations, I tend to cover the bridal prep myself, whilst my 2nd photographer (Lottie) spends a couple of hours with the groom and his party.
It was a beautiful sunny day, actually a bit TOO sunny at times. (Whilst the bride always wishes for wall-to-wall sunshine, the photographer prefers a bright, overcast day as the lighting is more even and flattering, with no harsh shadows and squinting guests!)
The bridal prep with Ellie was very relaxed, and I really enjoyed the few hours I spent photographing the bridal party as they had their make-up and hair done. I always make sure I get a few photographs of the details – wedding dress, bridesmaids dresses, shoes, jewellery, gifts, cards, etc as it’s always nice to look back at these as a reminder of all the special touches that make a wedding day unique.
Ellie was so laid back that she arrived at the church about 30 mins after the ceremony was due to start, which resulted in Pete later complaining about ‘timeline’ issues. Luckily, the priest was equally ‘chilled’ and everything was just fine – it was a lovely ceremony, and the priest had a very lively sense of humour!
After the ceremony, we went on to Croxteth Park to take the formal group shots. The combination of harsh sunlight and windy conditions made these shots a little challenging, but the end product was worth the effort in ensuring we captured all the photographs that would become long treasured memories.
From Croxteth Park, the wedding party travelled to the Village Hotel Whiston, in a lovely vintage car and a very striking pink limousine. It was then time to take the all important bride & groom portrait shots, using the greenery and flowers in the hotel grounds to maximum effect. I only need around 10 to 15 minutes to take these photographs and I aim to make the couple feel relaxed so the portrait photos are very natural and capture their personalities and love for each other.
