Leanne & Stephen’s Southport Rugby Club wedding was a personal highlight of 2017. The weather wasn’t great, but Leanne’s friendliness, enthusiasm, and infectious (endless) smiling more than made up for the lack of real sunshine on the day. The rain started to fall during the ceremony, and it was never too far away for the rest of the day.
The church ceremony was at Lord Street West United Church in Southport, a beautiful building dating back to 1862. We headed over to Southport Rugby Club for the rest of the celebrations, but managed to sneak away to Victoria Park for half an hour to take some nice photographs in the grounds and next to the bandstand.
The confetti shot back at the Rugby Club worked our really well, with the overhead canopy providing some protection from the rain. One of the less traditional (but very entertaining) parts of the day was the apparent family tradition of the men drinking beer(?) from their own shoe. I never did get to the bottom of how or why that became a ‘thing’!

Whether you are a member of the club, or simply live within the local community, Southport Rugby Club’s clubhouse is available to hire. In 2015 the clubhouse underwent a major refurbishment which resulted in a new, ultra modern, bright and spacious venue, suitable for a whole range of functions.
